Changing Perspective: The Power of Gratitude

Gratitude can change the way you see life

Gratitude is not just a matter of politeness.
It is a powerful way to return to the present moment, remember what truly matters, and open new ways of seeing what we live.

In many personal growth processes and Gestalt therapy, learning to shift perspective can deeply transform the way we experience life.

It is not always easy. Sometimes we are so focused on what is missing that we forget everything that is already here.
But when we learn to be grateful even for the simplest things, like breathing, life gains another depth.

Gratitude is a simple and profound way to reconnect with the present moment.

Gratitude as a daily practice

Recently I began practicing gratitude more consciously.
I bought small stickers with the word “thanks” on them and placed them on my computer and my phone.
Not for decoration. Out of necessity.

Because, like many people, I sometimes struggle to recognize what I already have. I get caught in the desire for more, in the feeling that nothing is enough.

But every time I give thanks, I return to a very simple truth:

I am alive. I am breathing. I am here.

In many therapeutic processes, learning to pause and recognize what already exists is an essential step toward regaining balance.

Health: invisible until it breaks

Having good health can seem like very little… until we lose it.

And in that moment, everything else — money, success, achievements — becomes secondary.

Being grateful for our health is a way of honoring what silently sustains our life.

It is also a way of stepping out of autopilot and recovering awareness.

Gratitude as a way to change perspective

When you practice gratitude, you may not change what is happening.
But you change the way you look at it.

More possibilities appear. More nuances.

And with greater perspective comes greater freedom to choose consciously.

Because if you only see one way out, you are not choosing — you are reacting.

Shifting perspective is one of the deepest movements in Gestalt therapy.

How much of your day do you truly feel free?

Freedom is not only external.
It is also internal:

freedom from constant pressure,
from anxiety,
from the ghosts of the past or the promises of the future.

When you feel trapped in those inner labyrinths, try to pause.
Breathe.

And practice gratitude even for the smallest things.

That seemingly simple gesture can bring you back to yourself.

Reconnecting with what truly matters

In Gestalt therapy, we also work with this:
with the way we live our experience.

With the power of a pause.
With the strength of a new perspective.
With the depth of felt gratitude.

Not to deny discomfort, but to restore its rightful proportion.

Learning to practice gratitude can also be a way of inhabiting your life with more presence.

If you feel the need to develop your potential from a more present, freer, and more authentic place, this therapeutic process can support you.
