When a couple goes through difficult times, it’s not always easy to know where to look for help. If you live in Maresme and you’re looking for couples therapy near you, this post can help you understand how I work and what you can expect from a therapeutic process from the Gestalt approach.
I work in Premià de Dalt, in the Maresme region, also seeing couples from Premià de Mar, Vilassar de Dalt, Vilassar de Mar, El Masnou, Mataró and other nearby towns. I offer in-person sessions in Premià de Dalt and also online for those who need it.
What is Gestalt couples therapy?
Gestalt therapy with couples does not seek to impose solutions or force agreements. It seeks to create a space where both members of the couple can see themselves clearly, recognize what is happening in the relationship, and explore whether they want and can do something about it. That can mean strengthening the bond, or it can mean accepting that paths separate. Therapy does not decide for you. It accompanies you while you decide.
When can couples therapy help?
There are signs that usually indicate it might be useful to open a therapeutic space. You find it hard to communicate without it turning into an argument, you feel you no longer understand each other like before, you’ve stopped talking about what’s important. Or perhaps one of you feels alone within the relationship, there’s a specific conflict you can’t resolve, or you’re directly considering whether to stay together or not.
You don’t have to wait until everything is broken to ask for help. I’ve seen couples who open a therapeutic space when things still work, precisely so they don’t deteriorate. And I’ve seen others who arrive when there’s already a lot of accumulated damage. In both cases you can work, although obviously the starting point is different.
How I work with couples in Premià de Dalt
My way of working is based on the ethics of care and mutual respect. I don’t position myself as a judge or mediator. My function is to help you see clearly what is happening between you, not to tell you what you have to do.
In sessions we explore how you communicate (or how you stop communicating), we identify the patterns that repeat and generate discomfort, we put words to what sometimes is hard to say at home. I work from the here and now: what is happening between you at this moment, not just what happened months or years ago.
I don’t work with rigid protocols because each couple is different and each process is unique. What works for one couple may not work for another.
How long does couples therapy last?
There is no fixed answer. Some couples find what they need in a few sessions, others need longer accompaniment. What matters is that the process doesn’t last longer than necessary. I work so you can recover autonomy as soon as possible, without creating dependence on the therapeutic space.
In-person and online couples therapy in Maresme
I see clients at my practice in Premià de Dalt, which is well connected with Premià de Mar, Mataró, El Masnou, Vilassar and other towns in the region. I also offer online couples therapy for those who prefer or need remote sessions. Online works just as well as in-person when there’s commitment from both parties.
Can therapy save a relationship?
This is a question I hear often, and the honest answer is that therapy doesn’t save relationships. It helps people see clearly whether they want to keep building together or not. The result of the process can be strengthening the bond, but it can also be accepting that the healthiest thing is to separate. Both results are valid.
What matters is not saving the relationship at all costs, but that both of you can make decisions with awareness and respect. And that includes the decision not to stay together if that’s what you need.
What happens if only one wants to come to therapy?
This happens frequently. One of you feels something isn’t working and wants to work on it, the other isn’t convinced or directly refuses. It’s possible to work individually when one of you isn’t willing to come. Sometimes the change in one generates movement in the other, other times working individually helps the person make clearer decisions about their relationship.

How many sessions do we need?
There’s no fixed number. Some couples resolve what they need in four to six sessions, others need a longer process. We go session by session, evaluating whether the space is being useful.

If during the process you reach the conclusion that it’s best to separate paths, the therapeutic space can help you do it constructively and respectfully. Separating is not failing. Sometimes it’s the most honest and brave decision a couple can make.
